Overview

The Mousehole Bolthole is a newly converted net loft which has been recently refurbished by a Mousehole family and brought into service as one of the best unusual places to stay in Cornwall, tucked away down one of the village’s enchantingly higgledy-piggedly lanes in a private, gated courtyard. These traditional stone cottages were once used by local fishermen to store and mend their nets but many have since been turned into quirky accommodation in Cornwall, their snug size and historic character making them very special places to stay.

Inside, the top floor, en-suite master bedroom is a haven of comfort and style with sea and harbour views and a rainforest shower. Sink into the plush, king-sized bed, made up for your stay with crisply laundered linens, and after a night’s slumber, wake up rejuvenated and ready to explore the charming coastal scenery beckoning through the window.

On the ground floor, the all-new fitted kitchen and dining room comes with everything you need to let your inner chef loose and cook up a Cornish feast while, upstairs, the light-filled living area blends comfort and elegance with a stylish sofa to sink into while you catching up on reading, watch a film or sip your favourite aperitif while gazing out at the mesmerizing horizon.
Outside, a courtyard space is the perfect setting for outdoor gatherings and barbecues. This is shared with the neighbouring Mousehole Snug, making these two unusual places to stay in Cornwall brilliantly flexible options if you want to holiday with friends but enjoy your own kitchens and bathrooms.

If you’re trying to decide between places to stay in West Cornwall the location is a unique draw here. Right at the edge of Mousehole harbour, a stone’s throw from the village’s stunning sandy harbour beach, if you’re yearning for a saltwater swim you’re just a minute’s stroll from the ocean.

Things to do

  • A stone's throw round the coast from Newlyn and Penzance, Mousehole is often dubbed the prettiest village in England thanks to its tangle picture-perfect, fishermen’s cottage-lined streets, its quaint harbour and the famous Christmas lights display that takes place here each year. It’s also home to a vibrant artistic community, with galleries and craft shops galore

  • Mousehole is also a hotspot for watersports. For the adventurous, it’s a great jumping-off point for coasteering, kayaking, paddleboarding and even surfing while the gentler pursuits of swimming and rock-pooling are just as much fun, and easily accessed via the village’s two sandy beaches

  • West Cornwall is full of wildlife and the coastline around Mousehole is one of the best areas to spot seabirds, seals and, if you're lucky, even dolphins and basking sharks. If you want to delve deeper into the marine world during your stay, we can give you recommendations for the best wildlife-watching trips

  • This is one of the most rewarding stretches of the South West Coast Path. For a car-free holiday you can easily walk around the coast to neighbouring Newlyn and the cafes, bars, galleries and lido in Penzance

  • If you do want to get further afield you’ll find you’re within easy day-tripping distance of the galleries and museums of St Ives, landmark attractions such as St Michael’s Mount, Lands’ End and the Minack Theatre and some of the best beaches, coastal paths and protected landscapes in West Cornwall

  • The wonderful Old Coastguard dining pub is one of the best places to eat and drink in Cornwall, and just a short stroll up the hill from the Mousehole Bolthole

  • In the heart of Mousehole, a stone’s throw from the sea & harbour

  • Newly refurbished Net Loft in private (gated) courtyard

  • Parking in South Quay car park for a small charge
(one minute’s drive from the Mousehole Bolthole)

  • "If I could choose 10 stars for this place I really would. The host was brilliant from the moment we booked, so friendly and helpful and went above and beyond. The house was beautiful, sparkling clean, had everything you could ask for in accommodation and had wonderful views. Parking was easy to find and very close by so that was an added bonus. It is brilliantly situated with local shops, pubs, restaurants and the harbour all within a 5 minute walk. Definitely recommend this accommodation, thank you so much for a delightful stay"
