Overview

Sleeping up to five guests in three bedrooms (one super-king, one double and one single), No. 1 The Beach House is so thoughtfully equipped that you really can pull up in the private, off-road, parking area and start unwinding straight away. A mirror image of No. 1 the Beach House, No. 2 the Beach House can be booked independently or taken together with its next-door twin for a larger group gathering or multi-generation holiday.

Whether you’re unwrapping portions of surf-fresh fish and chips onto warmed-up plates or you’re whipping up a multi-course Cornish feast from scratch, inspired by the bounty of West Penwith’s farms, fishing boats and market gardens, you’ll find just what you need in the impressively equipped kitchen.

A separate dining room, sitting room and conservatory allows everyone space to relax while a child-friendly approach means amenities are provided for all ages (these include a baby gym, baby, pre-school toy boxes, Lego sets and a comprehensive selection of games for the whole family as well as a Trip Trap highchair and cot).

It’s a similar with-frills story out in the garden, with zero gravity recliners, deckchairs and parasols helping you find the most comfortable spot for sea-watching and star-gazing, and a gas barbecue for serious al fresco suppers.

Those sea views are a key part of the experience at this Cornwall beach house. In fact you’ll spy them from every room except the kitchen and the single bedroom. Drift off to sleep in luxurious linen and wake up to soul-stirring, salt-licked vistas of Mounts Bay, St Michael’s Mount and the Lizard.

Things to do

  • The old fishing village of Newlyn (now part of the wider Penzance conurbation) has such a deep-rooted history that it was one of the last bastions of the Cornish language, kept alive by the tight-knit fishing community until it died out in the 1700s (though it’s currently undergoing a revival). Exploring this heritage is easily done via the Newlyn Village Trail, which starts at the Fishermen’s Mission

  • Art is another big draw in Newlyn. In the 1880s several artists moved to the town, captivated by the light and the harbour community. Many of the works painted by the artists' colony they formed, the Newlyn School, can be seen at Penlee House Gallery and Museum in neighbouring Penzance but No 1 the Beach House is also directly opposite Newlyn Art Gallery, a landmark building dating back to 1895 that now hosts a vibrant programme of art exhibitions and workshops in tandem with its second site in the centre of Penzance

  • Shopping is a pleasure in Newlyn. Home to several independent food shops - including an artisan bakery, butcher, cheese shop, grocer and ice cream shop – you’ll also find three fishmongers and two shellfish merchants just a scallop shell’s throw from where the boats come in

  • While the buzzy bars and restaurants of Penzance are walkable from Newlyn there are some excellent places to eat and drink right on the doorstep, from Mackerel Sky seafood bar and harbourside fish restaurant Argoe to local fish and chip shop, Lewis, historic maritime dining pub, The Tolcarne Inn, Lovetts wine bar and coffee shop, the Newlyn Fermentary, for fresh kefir, and Jeliberts ice cream parlour

  • Local independent cinema, the Newlyn Filmhouse, has a lively cocktail bar and restaurant for an evening out under cover

  • Walk just a short way around the coast to Penzance’s Jubilee Pool, a beautifully restored Art Deco lido with a geothermal bathing area and a terrace café for post-swim drinks, meals and snacks

  • Fantastic location in bustling harbour village of Newlyn & next to the beach

  • Superb sea views from house and the garden

  • Everything you need for a relaxing seaside holiday
