Overview
Just 10 minutes’ drive from Penzance and St Ives yet squirreled away in peaceful seclusion, the recently refurbished Cornish Barn is the ultimate rural retreat, deep in the heart of West Cornwall. If you’re looking for hidden places to stay in Cornwall for a couple, or properties that suit small families, this stylish barn is a real find, full of character yet updated to exacting modern standards. It’s also decidedly dog-friendly.
All on one level, an open-plan layout leads from the Cornish Barn’s smart contemporary kitchen, with its large, sociable dining table, through to a living room area that’s tailor-made for cosy evenings by the log-burner.
This secret getaway’s two bedrooms continue the pampering hidden hideaway feel. One is a king-size en-suite, tastefully designed for cocooning yourself away on peaceful, starry nights. The other is a double with a desk – combined with the cottage’s super-fast Wi-Fi it’s perfect for those who need to work while enjoying a countryside break.
Outside there is parking for two cars. Something you can really make the most of at this restful place to stay in West Cornwall, with a host of great car-free walks from the door.
After a day of exploring the ancient lanes, sink into a slower pace with a soak in the cottage’s roll-top bath before drinks out on the sunny, gated decking.
Things to do
Walk straight from the door to the St Michaels Way footpath, or head to the coast to walk a stretch of the South West Coast Path – one of the best ways to experience the fabulous coastlines in the far west of Cornwall
Get your picture taken by the signpost at Lands’ End, the most westerly spot in the country, or approach it on foot from Porthgwarra or Sennen Cove, along the wild-edged coastal path and experience the real Lands End
For a dose of culture on the doorstep, you’re less than 15 minutes’ drive from Tate St Ives and the other galleries and museums of this creative Cornish town. Many other landmark attractions in West Cornwall – St Michael’s Mount, Lands’ End and the Minack Theatre among them – are also close by
Go beach-hopping: sandy Porthcurno and surfer hotspot Sennen Cove are both within 10 minutes’ drive.
Graze or gaze your way around the wonderful restaurants, bars and galleries in nearby Penzance, or pack your swimming costumes and go for a dip in the Jubilee Pool
The sunny climate means West Cornwall is home to several acclaimed sub-tropical gardens, with National Trust-run Trengwainton within 15 minutes’ drive
